Viñas do Torroxal
Atlantic character
TORROXAL was born in 1998 as the result of the
common project of a group of several well-known and experienced vine growers
of the area, who shared a main aim and commitment: to produce not only an
extraordinary fine albariño but also a high quality red wine in the
area of O Rosal valley.
For this purpose, autochthonous grapes that were about disappearing were
reclaimed (brancellao, sousón, caiño, castañal and
pedral) and grown in stony and south-facing soils. Wines almost vanished,
but not forgotten yet.
From the very first moment, we knew that to reach our
proposed goal it would be necessary to have own grapes, which were cared
and attended day by day and adapted to a particular soil and weather.
With this intention in mind, we added to the production
of an Albariño of great peculiarity, the recovering of local varietals,
elaborating one of the first reds with D.O. Rías Baixas.
